Robert was born March 5th, 1946, on a farm in Lebo, Kansas. Raised by some hard-working farmers, Ernest and Dorothy, Robert attended Lebo High where he dated his high school sweetheart and wife, Sharon. Knowing that he did not want to be a chicken farmer, Robert attended Kansas State University studying mathematics. He then went on to complete his master's degree at North Carolina State where he joined the ROTC program. During his 20 years as an Air Force officer, Robert worked with the space program, which took him from Georgia to Maine to Shemya, Alaska to Colorado Springs and finally to Omaha, Nebraska where he retired as a Lt. Colonel. During his Air Force career, Robert and Sharon had 4 children, Mary, Mark, Matt, and Meg, and loved every minute of poopy diapers, sibling rivalry, and chauffer services. Knowing also that he did not ever want to retire, Robert then worked 15 years with the electric utility company (NPPD) and another 10 years as a math and physics teacher at the Central Community College. Robert also served faithfully and with joy with the Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus Rescue Mission, and Campus Crusade. In all his career, he made lifelong friends wherever he was or wherever he worked.
If you knew Robert, you would be most likely to hear a silly pun, something about the Kansas State Wildcats, collecting tools he will never use, and always about Jesus. Robert was a faithful and loving husband (55 years with Sharon), a gracious and generous father, a kind and helpful neighbor and friend, and a highly respected member of the community who served everyone to the end. We will miss him dearly, but we celebrate his life and know that he is in a better place with Jesus in heaven.
