In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be directed to Sammy’s Superheroes Foundation, Columbus Paws and Claws, the family or donor’s choice.

Rick was born April 4th, 1957 in Columbus NE to Robert and Lee (Jensen) Hurner. He spent most of his life in Columbus graduating from Columbus High School in 1975. He married Kathi (Mimick) Hurt on November 15th, 1986. He spent 43 years keeping the residents of Columbus looking and feeling sharp with his scissors, stories and a glass of Crown.

Following retirement and the sale of Haircuts by R.H., he moved to Papillion and worked the last four years as a driver for Cardinal Health. After years of being self-employed, he was amazed at all the benefits a “real job” has. He really enjoyed going to work, seeing fellow employees and talking with hospital and clinic staff.

His most favorite hobby was his ’66 Chevelle SS. He spent many weekends at car shows, often coming home with trophies he was so proud of. Rick never met a stranger, he loved talking about cars, sports and especially his beloved grandson Will.

Rick is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathi; daughter Mandy Craig and grandson Will Craig. Brothers Doug (Julie) Hurner and Bob (Bev) Hurner. Sister-in-law Jane Gehlbach, brother-in-law Jerry (Donna) Mimick, sister-in-law Cindy (Kevin) Abbott and brother-in-law Chuck Mimick. His faithful four-legged sons Louie and Murphy. Nieces, nephews and enough friends to fill Memorial Stadium.

Preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Clarence and Evelyn Mimick, brother-in-law Jim Mimick, brother-in-law Ken Gehlbach and nephew Ben Hurner.
