Richard died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his home in Columbus.
Richard Lee Stone, or as he was known by his friends Stoney, was born October 5, 1940 at St Marys Hospital in Columbus. During High School he worked at his fathers service station, Stoneys APCO, and played Tuba in the Columbus High School Band, where he marched in the 1959 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena CA. His senior class was the first to graduate from the New Columbus High School in 1959. Rich then attended Midland College and later transferred to a school in Denver CO where he received his Degree in Drafting. After returning to Columbus, he worked at Behlen Mfg as a Draftsman in the Engineering Department until his retirement. Rich married Patricia Zywiec on December 31, 1964 and raised 2 children during their 27 year marriage. Rich also served as an Infantryman in the Army National Guard in Columbus from February 1964 until October 1969 when he was Honorably Discharged. During his 73 years, Rich loved bowling, golf, hunting, fishing, reading, coin collecting, and any NASCAR event. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his many friends & family, the occasional trip to warm Arizona, and watching Nebraska football at the lake. He will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents Virgil & Cassie (Rieken) Stone.
