Richard "Rich" Sliva, age 85, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at his home in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am Monday, July 1, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Military Honors will be conducted by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation is Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00 with a 6:00 p.m. Vigil Service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home.
Richard Sliva was born January 13, 1934 in Columbus, Nebraska to Joseph and Mary (Yelly) Sliva. He grew up in Columbus and attended St. Bonaventure High School. Rich served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 4, 1952 – February 18, 1955. On January 18, 1957 he was united in marriage to Margaret Konert in Yakima, Washington. Rich worked for Union Pacific, Lyman Richie and the City of Columbus including the water department, street department and the city landfill. He then worked for the village of Platte Center for 5 years before returning to work for the city of Columbus. Rich also owned and operated his own salvage business for many years. He was a member of St. Anthony Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
