Rex "Bud" W. Knopik

Rex "Bud" W. Knopik, of Monroe, Nebraska, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones at the age of 68.

Funeral services are 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa. Visitation is Friday morning 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment is in the Valley View Cemetery.                .

Born September 5, 1956, Rex was the beloved son of Arlene (Miller) and Lawrence "Groby" Knopik of Fullerton, Nebraska. He grew up in Fullerton, graduating from Fullerton High School, and found great pride in his early years working on the family farm, where his deep-rooted love of the land began. Rex was united in marriage to Bonnie Carlson on April 26, 1980.

In 2006, Rex and Bonnie made Monroe their home, where together they built a life filled with creativity, adventure, and love. Rex had a gift for seeing possibility where others could not—whether it was in woodworking, home remodeling, or computers, his projects always carried his unique vision and careful craftsmanship. He was known for his curiosity and wide range of hobbies, leaving those around him eager to see what he might dream up next.

Rex also had a passion for music and classic cars, especially his beloved car that—true to his spirit—would only play 70s songs. He and Bonnie shared countless adventures traveling across the western United States, often joined by their kids, relatives, and friends. Together, they sought out dusty mountain roads, canyon trails, and daring jeep adventures—sometimes fearless, sometimes a little foolish, but always filled with joy and laughter. It was their shared passion and bond.

He cherished time with his family, especially gatherings spent visiting and barbecuing. His greatest joy came from being a grandfather to his three beloved granddaughters, Bristol, Novah, and Meeka.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene and Lawrence "Groby" Knopik.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Knopik; sons Cameron Knopik and wife Connie, with granddaughters Bristol and Novah; and Trevor Knopik and wife Kendra, with granddaughter Meeka. He is also survived by his sisters Karla (Kevin) Stutzman, Gwen (Charlie) Zaruba, and Roxy (David) Umstead; brother Mark (Debbie) Knopik; along with many in-laws, nieces, and nephews who dearly loved him.

Rex will be remembered for his adventurous heart, his inventive mind, and the love he had for his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed and his memory cherished by all who knew him.
