Rex Grossnicklaus, age 92, died Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Osceola.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Friday at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Osceola. Visitation is on Thursday from 5-7 with a 7:00 pm Vigil to follow, all at St. Vincent's. Interment is in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Silver Creek with Military Honors by members of the US Air Force.
Rex Grossnicklaus was born July 7, 1932 in Osceola, NE to Holly and Doris (Gondringer) Grossnicklaus. Rex graduated from Osceola High School in 1950. He entered the US Air Force and served from December 16, 1952 until December 1, 1956. Through his love of dancing, he met his wife-to-be, Joyce Starostka. They were united in marriage on April 8, 1958 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. They continued to dance for their 63 years together. Rex farmed between Osceola and Silver Creek for all his life.
Rex had a great love for baseball, playing semi-pro until he was 47. He was inducted in the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984. He also enjoyed serving as a youth coach for his children and continued his love for baseball by managing an adult baseball team for many years. Rex had a great love for his family and friends. He attended many of his children's and grandchildren's sports and activities.
Rex was a member of the Silver Creek American Legion and the Catholic Church.
