Raymond Leo Wiese of Grand Island, formerly of Columbus died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Raymond Leo Wiese was born February 22, 1922 in Lindsay, Nebraska to Henry J. and Rose (Borer) Wiese. He served in the U.S. Sea Bees during World War II. He spent time in Okinawa, Hebrides, and the Pacific Theatre as a baker aboard a ship from 1942 - 1945. On March 27, 1945 Ray was united in marriage to Olive M. Coufal at St. Agnus Catholic Church in Omaha. They made their home on a farm in Lindsay. In 1952 they moved to Columbus where Ray worked for Becton-Dickinson from 1954 - 1977. Ray was a member of St. Anthony Church, Holy Name Society and did a lot of volunteer work for the church. He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, B-D Alumni Association, the Knights of Columbus, and was past Chairman of the Heritage House Board of Directors.
