Phyllis Zimmerman of Columbus died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.
Phyllis Eileen Zimmerman was born June 25, 1923 in Plainview, NE to Carl S. and Bertha (Bugenhagen) Carrell. She graduated from the Rock County High School in Bassett, NE in 1940 and graduated from the Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa in 1944. Phyllis served in the Army Nurses Corp for 2 years during World War II as a First Lieutenant and received the American Theater Medal. Phyllis married Vernon L. Zimmerman on October 11, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. They lived in Columbus where Phyllis worked as a Registered Nurse at the Columbus Hospital for 38 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and served as the President of the Norfolk/Columbus Ostomy Chapter.

Five Grandchildren: Stacy Vocelka, Neil Stier, Lisa Rogers, Shayla Sexton, and Tyler Romero
Eleven Great Grandchildren: Joe Vocelka, Sam Vocelka, Jake Stier, Nate Stier, Seth Rogers, Carson Rogers, Noelle Rogers, Kinsley Rogers, Kayla Rogers, Sawyer Sexton, and Rory Sexton
