Phyllis died Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Brighton Gardens Nursing Home in Omaha.
Phyllis Beth Huston was born on July 5, 1928, to Walter and Ruth (Smith) Huston on a farm northeast of Central City, Nebraska. She was educated in country schools, all near Central City. She attended High School at Central City and graduated in 1945. She married Vernon Peterson on September 5, 1948. She and Vernon lived on a farm southwest of Silver Creek until their retirement in February of 2006, when they moved to Prairie Village in Columbus, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Karen (Phillip) Nelson of Tampa, FL, Diane (Ed) Hansler of Ralston, NE, and Bob (Betty) Peterson of Nicholasville, KY. They have 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
During her life Phyllis was involved in many local organizations. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Silver Creek and was very active in the United Methodist Women where she served in all positions. She taught a variety of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She was active in Country Club and Sewing Club. In addition she belonged to a Senior Bowling League and a Pinochle Club.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Vernon, all three children, and one sister, Claribel Overcash of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth Huston, and one brother, Lee Huston.
