Peggy "Peg" Jeffres, age 70, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at her home in Columbus.
A Celebration of Peg's Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. Interment is in Roselawn Cemetery. The service will be broadcast live on the McKown Funeral Home Facebook page. To access the Facebook page, click here .
All CDC guidelines regarding public gatherings will be followed. Masks are required. In an abundance of caution, those feeling ill or who are in quarantine are asked to watch the livestream broadcast of the service.
Peggy was born on September 29, 1950, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, and she was welcomed into the home of Ray & Rosemary (Cruise) Jeffres. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1968, and from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, in 1973. Her first teaching position was at West Park Elementary, and then she taught for 37 years at Clarkson Public School. She taught upper elementary, and she coached basketball and volleyball.
Peg was an active member of Columbus First United Methodist Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and served for many years after she retired from teaching. For many years, she chaired the Education Committee, led the Prayer Team and participated in the Thursday night Bible study. She volunteered for many church activities and participated on the Nebraska United Methodist Bike (NUMB) Ride for over 15 years.
Peggy enjoyed spending time with her friends going to Husker volleyball games, watching favorite TV shows like "Fargo." She was involved in playing and coaching softball for 40 years, and she received the Jim Hall Award for youth softball "Coach of the Year," awarded by the American Softball Association Hall of Fame in Hastings in the mid-1980s.
Peg is survived by her fur baby Sunny; cousins: Jerry Layher, Jan Noteboom, Sharon Hoffman, Beverly Gostivich, Nancy Ruff; her church family and many treasured friends.
She is preceded in death by: Parents Ray & Rosemary Jeffres and many aunts and uncles
