Paul died Friday, September 12, 2014 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Paul J. Braun was born December 6, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Bernard and Anna (Kraus) Braun. He received his education at St. Anthony School in Cedar Rapids. Paul worked on the family farm and various other jobs until entering the Army on August 3, 1950. He served in Korea in the Army Signal Corps attaining the rank Sergeant. At one time he survived an artillery blast that destroyed his radio truck and his living tent.
On April 26, 1954 he married Rose Ann Molczyk at St. Michaels Church in Albion, Nebraska. The set up farming there but due to severe drought they moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked several jobs until returning to Columbus, Nebraska. Paul worked as a welder at Fleischer Manufacturing until accepting employment with the U.S. Post Office, retiring December 1, 1991. He was also co-owner of J.P. Sprinkler with his son-in-law Jim.
In 1978 Paul and Rose traveled to seven countries in Europe, meeting their son John in Rome where he was stationed in the Navy. By chance they arrived there the day after Pope John Paul the First died. They saw his body and some of the funeral preparations. In retirement they visited all the states and Puerto Rico.
Paul loved spending time with his grandchildren taking them swimming, boating and fishing at their cabin on the lake. He and Rose took them to Hawaii and Alaska. He also enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, gardening and driving cars for auto dealerships.
Paul was a member of St. Isidore Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. #3704 where he served as Chaplain and Hartman Post #84 American Legion where he served on the Honor Guard for many years. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees where he served as President and Secretary of the local chapter.
