Patricia Nadean Thompson, age 88, of Columbus, died on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at St. Joseph's Rehab and Care Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at McKown Funeral Home. Private family interment is in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Petersburg, Nebraska.
Patricia Nadean Gress Thompson was born on August 5th, 1936 in St Edward, NE to Ethel M (Hughes) Gress and Dean E Gress. She received her education in rural Boone County Schools and St Edward and Newman Grove High schools. She received her AAS Degree from Central Community College in 1990.
On December 10th, 1951 she was united in marriage To Arvid C. Thompson at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, IA. To this union five children were born, Dean, Elaine, Lorraine, David and Diana. She was employed for 40 years at Dale Electronics (Vishay). After her retirement, she spent some time traveling. She then worked for seven years at Apogee Call Center. She volunteered for several organizations including the Red Cross, Simon House, NENAA as Ombudsman, SAFE program for the Attorney Generals Office & Center for Survivors. She proudly served 12 years as Director of Columbus Emergency Relief. She received many awards for her service including Sertoma Service to Mankind and the Peter D. Rush award for Voluntarism. Nadean was a member of Toastmasters International for 20 years serving all offices at club level and served as Area, and Division Governor. Nadean was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she enjoyed attending Bible Class.
Nadean enjoyed doing crosswords, crocheting baby afghans, making baby quilts, embroidering tea towels and other needlework as gifts to family and friends.
Nadean was preceded in death by her husband Arvid in 1982, Parents Dean & Ethel (Hughes) Gress, Brother Jerold Gress and Infant brother Robert Gress. Son Dean Thompson. Grandson Craig Olsufka
Survived by her Children Elaine (Leo) Hamling of Norfolk, Lorraine (William) Wenske, David (Joyce) Thompson, Diana (David) Olsufka all of Columbus. Daughter-in-law Betty Thompson of Columbus, 15 Grandchildren, Andy (Erin) Hamling of Lincoln, Jerri(Jeff)Palik of Grand Island, Heather (lan) Ratcliffe of Lincoln, Hilary (Russ) Taylor of Columbus, Crystal (Richard) Foor of Humphrey, John (Nicole) Wuest of O'Fallon MO, Wayne (Mandi) Wuest of Monroe , Chelsie (Rachell) Hansen of Omaha, Brittney (Grant) Wiemer of Creston, Dylan Thompson of Omaha, Beth Olsufka of Platte Center, Rachel (Bobby) Pensick, and Kylie (Eric) Sedlacek of Columbus, Eric (Kim) Olsufka of Genoa, Emily (Nick) Ridgeway of Kearney. Two step grandchildren, Matt (Theresa) Wenske, Alicia (Paul) Curry of Bellwood. Many great grandchildren. Niece Jodie Schwartz and nephew Mark (Nicole) Gress.
