Othelia &Quot;Tillie&Quot; Kubicek

June 20, 1918 — May 27, 2017

Othelia Kubicek, known as "Tillie" to those who loved her, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Tillie was born June 20, 1918 near Tarnov, Nebraska to Joseph and Catherine (Chochon) Matya. She was raised in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska and graduated from District #85 School. Upon moving to Columbus with her family, she worked at Swifts and the Columbus Laundry. Tillie married Alouis "Louie" Kubicek on September 14, 1942 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, St. Anne's Guild, Town and Country Extension Club, American Legion Auxiliary where she was a life member and served as Commander for 4 terms. She was also a life member of the PTA and a member of the 8 & 40 Club. Her hobbies included playing cards, dancing, traveling, swimming, exercising, adventures (helicopter rides over Las Vegas), gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had many friends in Nebraska and California.

If there were any words to describe her it would be; a loving mother who cherished life and lived with faith, dignity and good will.

She is survived by:

Son: Larry Kubicek of Long Beach, CA
Granddaughter: Brook (Special Friend Ray McGinn) Steenbock of Kansas City, MO
Grandson: Shannon (Mandy) Steenbock of Gretna, NE
Great Grandsons: Kaben and Braxton Steenbock of Gretna, NE
Sister: JoAnn Peitzmeier of Omaha, NE
Sister-in-Law: Helen Matya of Mitchell, SD.
Much loved Nieces and Nephews
Extended Family: John, Paula, Jacob and Josh Kloppel of Columbus, NE

She was preceded in death by:

Brother: Ted Matya
Infant Brother: Joseph
Sister: Nora Bernt
