Opal Benedict

Opal Vera Benedict, age 91 of Ogallala, Nebraska formerly of Bellwood, Nebraska died Saturday October 20, 2001 at her home in Ogallala. Funeral Services are 1:00 p.m. Friday October 26, 2001 at the Bellwood Methodist Church with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Burial will be in the Bellwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the church in Bellwood.
Opal Vera Benedict was born September 25, 1910 in Norton, Kansas to John and Violet (Adrian) Powell. She grew up in Nelson, Nebraska. Following high school Opal attended Hastings College and the Mary Lanning School of Nursing. After her graduation she began a long career as a surgical nurse. On October 11, 1947 Opal was united in marriage to Maurice Benedict in Bellwood, Nebraska where they made their home for over fifty years. The couple kept a summer home at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala since the late 1960's and moved to Ogallala to make their home in 1999. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the I.O.O.F. Rebekah Lodge, Butler County Extension Society, the Bellwood Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
