Norma (Jean) Hamling

Norma "Jean" Hamling, 84, of rural Columbus Nebraska died peacefully at home on May 4th, 2020, surrounded by family. Per her wishes there will be no service.

Jean was born on January 1st, 1936 to Gilbert and Della (Kaus) Gasper in Lindsay Nebraska. She graduated from Lindsay Holy Family. Her occupations were being a teacher, school bus driver, babysitter, and homemaker. Jean was united in marriage to James Hamling on May 28th,1957. James and Jean were married for 42 years, and to this union 8 wonderful children were born. One of Jeans greatest joys in life was being baptized as a Jehovah Witness in 2005. Some of her remarkable hobbies involved animals, gardening, flower beds, and nature. Jean particularly enjoyed quality time with her family.

Jean is survived by her children; Deb (Les) Kamm of Columbus Nebraska, Dave (Patti Brooks) Hamling of Columbus Nebraska, Randy (Melody) Hamling of Wahoo Nebraska, Kevin Hamling of Columbus Nebraska, Terry Hamling of Duncan Nebraska, Tami (Dale/Avery) Johnson of Columbus Nebraska, Lisa Hamling of Columbus Nebraska, Lori Hamling of Columbus Nebraska; siblings, brother Don (Marylee) Gasper of Lindsay Nebraska, sister Helen Policky of Cozad Nebraska, sister-in-law Marian Hamling of Lindsay Nebraska; numerous nieces/nephews; 22 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Jean was considered a mother/grandmother to many loved ones that spent time with her.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband James Hamling, parents Gilbert and Della (Kaus) Gasper, sister Darlene Drown, brother Erwin Gasper, brother-in-law Frank Policky, brother-in-law Marshal Drown, brother-in-law Kenneth Hamling, sister-in-law Irene Gasper, step-mothers Helen Gasper and Irene Gasper, father and mother-in-law Albert and Mildred Hamling, daughter-in-law Nicole Johnson-Hamling, step-grandson Christopher Johnson. Jean was an extremely loving/caring person who will be greatly missed.
