Bert Pokorny of Columbus died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Columbus Community Hospital.
Norbert Ivan Pokorny was born October 1, 1940 in Dwight, Nebraska to Ivan and Mary (Kozisek) Pokorny. He was raised in Surprise, NE and received his education from David City High School. Bert served in the US Navy from 1958 - 1961. On his return from the service he moved to Columbus. He was united in marriage to Lenore Nosal on January 11, 1964 in Columbus. Bert worked for NPPD for 38 years. He started as a Draftsman for NPPS and retired in March of 2000 from NPPD as an Engineering Technician Level III in the High Voltage Protection Section.
Bert was a founding member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, American Legion, and was a 3rd Degree member of the St. Isidore Council of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, puzzles, and doing woodworking projects for his family. Bert's favorite pastime was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
