Ned Powers Jr.

Ned Powers, Jr., age 81, of Silver Creek died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10:30 am Saturday, February 11 at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Bev Hieb will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery with military honors by the Silver Creek American Legion Post #263. Visitation is on Friday from 5-7 pm at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek and continues Saturday morning from 9:30 until service time, also at the church.

Ned Powers was born October 18, 1924 in Silver Creek, Nebraska to Ned Powers, Sr. and Madeline (Pennington) Powers. He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, trained to be a waist gunner on a B17, and was shipped to an Air Base in Foggia, Italy. He flew 31 missions over Germany and Northern Italy. After the War, he returned to Silver Creek. Ned was a truck driver most of his life, driving long distances for Union Freightways, Grosch Irrigation, and several other companies. He also ran Ned's Service, a gas station in Silver Creek for 5 or 6 years. He was married to Ilva Jean Newth on January 26, 1946 in Venango, Nebraska. They lived in Wyoming, Columbus, and have been residents of Silver Creek since 1950.
