Neal Drum, Jr., 83, of Columbus died Monday, October 27 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Neal was born May 17, 1925 in Oconee, Nebraska to Neal and Anna (Kuck) Drum, Sr. He grew up in Oconee and attended grade school in Platte Center and Kramer High School in Columbus. Neal entered the US Marine Corp during World War II and fought in Iwo Jima and Guam. He returned to Columbus where he was united in marriage to Bonnie Murray on August 21, 1947. Neal joined the Columbus Police Department in 1950. He retired from the police force after 32 years and became the Platte County Sheriff for 9 years before retiring in 1989. Neal was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and going to his grandkids sporting events.
