Nadine L. Cumming, age 74 of St. Edward, Nebraska passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at her home. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the United Methodist/Presbyterian Church in St. Edward Pastor Glen Holtz , Pastor Kathy Bullard and Fr. Brian Kane officiating. Visitation is 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday all at the church in St. Edward. Burial is in the Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. Memorials may be directed to the St. Edward Library or the St. Edward Fire Department, c/o The St. Edward Community Foundation, 308 N 7th St., St. Edward, NE 68660; or to the United Methodist/Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund P.O. Box 342, St. Edward, NE 68660.
Nadine was born September 5, 1932, in Wayne, Nebraska to Martin F. and Anne L. (Peterson) Lage. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1950, and from Wayne State College in 1954. She moved to St. Edward in the fall of 1954, to teach Home Economics at St. Edward Public School.
Nadine married Gene L. Cumming on August 5, 1956, at the First Methodist Church in Wayne. After their marriage, the couple moved to the R.J. Cumming family farm 6 miles east of St. Edward, living there until moving into St. Edward in 1989.
Nadine was a member of the West Hill Extension Club, the St. Edward Community Club, PEO Chapter DV Sisterhood and was involved with many other community organizations and activities. She and several others worked to raise the funds necessary to build the new Public Library in St. Edward.
She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist/Presbyterian Church in St. Edward, serving on many boards and committees over the years. Nadine was also a member and former officer of the United Women.
Nadine was an avid reader and a gardener who often shared her flowers with her church and with many homebound friends. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. Always the teacher, Nadine was now sharing her talent for sewing with her granddaughter, Katie.
Survivors include her husband, Gene of St. Edward; daughter, Carol Hassebrook (Wayne) of Bellwood, NE; sons, Scott Cumming (Cliff Whittle) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Alan Cumming (Mary) of Moorhead, IA; grandchildren, Mark Hassebrook of Lincoln, Bruce Hassebrook of Genoa, Ryan Hassebrook of Lincoln and Robert J. and Katie Cumming of Moorhead, IA; sister, Donna Hansen (Lester) of Wayne, NE; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
