Myra Obrist was born December 31, 1947 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Roy and Mary (Getsfred) Olk. In her youth she lived in Petersburg, Norfolk, Ord and St. Joseph MO before settling in Columbus. After graduating from Scotus Central Catholic in 1966, she completed surgical and nursing training becoming an LPN. On May 14, 1976 she was joined in marriage to John L. Obrist. After the birth of their son, Myra and John founded Obrist & Co. Plumbing in 1978 where she worked alongside her family helping the business grow. She spent her adult life living in Columbus where she was endlessly involved in the community. She worked for many years in youth rehabilitation, managed several local small businesses and finally returned to her true calling of helping children as the cafeteria manager at St. Isidore School before retiring in 2013. Myra awoke every day with a smile which she unselfishly shared with everyone she met, often from the driver's seat of her Chrysler ragtop. Becoming a grandmother allowed Myra's many gifts to reach new heights and her love for her two granddaughters will be irreplaceable. A member of St. Isidore's catholic church, Myra will be remembered for her pool parties and her potato salad will be greatly missed by her loving family.
