Mike Starzec

Michael "Mike" Starzec, age 64, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 27 at St. Isidore Church in Columbus.  His visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 pm Friday at St. Isidore Church with a Vigil service to follow at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 am until service time at the church.  Burial will be held at All Saints Cemetery

In lieu of flowers Memorials can be directed to the Columbus Community Hospital Hospice Program.

Mike was born on September 29, 1959, in Columbus, Nebraska to his parents Sylvester and Bernice (Micek) Starzec.  Mike grew up in Columbus and attended St. Bonaventure and Columbus High School.  Mike worked for Gerhold Precast after High School and moved to Tucson, Arizona in the mid 1980's and remained there until 2024.  Mike was a self-employed concrete contractor while living in Tucson. Mike lived a simple life and enjoyed a good game of pool and betting on the "triple crown" horse races.  Mike was a man of few words and will be remembered for his big smile.

Mike was diagnosed with terminal cancer in February of 2024 and moved back to Columbus, Nebraska to be closer to family.

Mike is survived by his siblings, Mary (Dan) Baldwin, Hudson Falls, NY, Joe Starzec, Maumelle, AR, Sue (Steve) Souders, Lincoln, NE, Patty (Eugene) Levos, Shelby, NE, Ron (Donna) Starzec, Columbus, NE, Steve (Kim) Starzec, Larkspur, CO, and many nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Kem (Munson) Starzec and niece Christina Levos.
