Michael Langan, age 80 of Columbus, died Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Friday, October 20 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation is on Thursday from 4-7 pm with a Vigil service to follow at 7:00 pm, all being held at the Church Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9:30 am until service time at St. Isidore Catholic Church. The family encourages casual dress for those is attendance (John Deere Green, Re/Max)
Michael J. Langan was born on March 12, 1943, to Willis and Kathleen (Gordan) Langan of rural Cedar Rapids, NE. He was baptized in the Catholic church and lived his life with a strong faith in God.
In 1961 he graduated from Cedar Rapids High School, after graduation he moved to Columbus. In 1962 he married Carolyn Haschke and their son Michael was born. Mike began farming and became the District Manager of Moorman Feed Company before starting his Real Estate career which he continued for 41 years. During his career he received multiple awards and was a Broker and Partner with the Re/Max franchise in Columbus, NE.
On February 14, 2012, he married his soulmate, Roberta Ruhl. They enjoyed a shared love of traveling and had many wonderful memories of places they were able to visit along with their many backroad adventures as well. Mike and Roberta had a great love for their family and cherished spending time with each one of them.
Mike had a passion for John Deere Tractors. He enjoyed his collection, going on tractor rides and most of all working alongside his son at their shop restoring tractors of all colors and other restoration projects.
Known as Senior and Junior to the other pullers, Mike and his son tractor pulled together from 1993 until 2019 competing with the National Antique Tractor pulling Association (NATPA), The Nebraska Bush Pullers and the Outlaws. Mike won several National Championships with the NATPA and was Puller of the Year and Sportsman of the Year with the Nebraska Bush Pullers.
Mike entertained many with his musical talents, playing his guitar and singing with the bands, Junkyard Dawgs, Moonlighters and Blue Boys.
Mike was a beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his wife, Roberta of Columbus; son Michael (Kim) Langan of Columbus; Grandson Craig (Jeanne) Langan of Plattsmouth, NE; Grandson Troy Langan of Columbus, NE. Daughter Kim (Gary) Podraza of Columbus; Daughter Kris (Kirk) Johnson of Platte Center; Granddaughter Ashtyn (Chase) Kapels; Grandson Taylor (Bri) Podraza; Grandson Tanner Podraza (Carli Clark) of Columbus; Granddaughter Kaytlyn (Brandon) Sohl and Grandson Kody Johnson (Britt Steiner) of York, Aaron Johnson of Platte Center; and Noah Johnson of Axtell. 10 Great Grandchildren. Sisters, JoAnn Miller of Gretna, Patricia Selle of Grand Island, Nancy (Richard) Dobson of Mesa, AZ, brother David(Connie)Langan of Cedar Rapids. Very Special Friends Ron and Betty Luth and Verlyn and Joan Rosendahl.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Lorraine Hoff and husband Dallas, sister Margaret (Peg) Reeder and husband Thomas and brother-in-law Fritz Miller.
