Michael Bernt, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is Friday from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. vigil service, all at McKown Funeral Home. Burial is in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Simon House.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Danielle and Meghan, and his devoted sister, Patricia, who lovingly cared for him and shared countless moments with him over the past decade. Michael is also remembered by his brothers Jim, Bob, and Scott. He is preceded in death by his brother, Dan, and his parents, Pat and Esther Bernt.
Michael Bernt was born on July 18, 1951, to Pat and Esther (Fischer) Bernt on the family farm near Spalding, NE. He graduated from Wheeler Central High School in Bartlett, NE and continued his education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he graduated with honors. Mike was a lifelong Cornhusker fan.
Mike had a passion for fishing, especially for walleye, and also loved bird hunting. He spent countless hours perfecting his craft of carving ducks and other birds by hand, winning dozens of awards for his exquisite work. His love for his 1967 Chevy Corvette Stingray was well known among friends and family, and he proudly took it to car shows, earning numerous awards for its pristine condition and classic beauty. Michael took immense pride in his work, playing a vital role in the success of Farmers National, where his dedication and hard work left a lasting impact.
Mike's home was his sanctuary, where he enjoyed sharing stories of his life's adventures with those he loved. His warmth, humor, and tales of his experiences will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Michael Bernt's legacy of love, dedication, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
