Maynard Shemek, age 89, died Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus, Nebraska. Visitation is 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial is in the Columbus Cemetery with Military Honors by The American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard.
Maynard G. Shemek was born June 19, 1933 on a farm near Tarnov, Nebraska to James and Helen (Startz) Shemek. He attended schools at St. Michael's in Tarnov and District #14 west of Tarnov. Maynard went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad at age 16, working on the bridge and building gang. He also worked for the alfalfa mill for 2 seasons operating the chopper and driving truck. Maynard served in the U.S. Army in the signal core during the Korean War from June of 1953 - April of 1955. He also worked for Irrigation Pump Company for 13 years. Maynard then began his career at Columbus Hydraulic as a Machinist/Tool and Die operator for 33 years until his retirement in 1999. Maynard enjoyed woodworking. He made a miniature wagon, windmill and hay rack wagon which will be on display at the Platte County Museum. Maynard was a member of St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus.
He is survived by:
