Mary Jo Van Ackeren

Mary Jo Van Ackeren age 93, died Monday, March 27, 2023, in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Monday, April 3, 2023 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is Sunday 4-6 pm with a 6:00 pm vigil service at the Church. Visitation will continue Monday morning 9:30 am until service time at the St. Bonaventure Church. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to Simon House, St. Bonaventure 2020 Project, or the Nebraska Right to Life

Mary Jo was born October 15, 1929 in Humphrey to Nick and Nellie (Klassen) Schaefer. In 1948 Mary Jo was united in marriage to Francis Van Ackeren at St. Joseph Church in Omaha. Mary Jo and Francis moved to Columbus in 1950. After their children were school age Mary Jo joined the J.C. Penny Company where she worked for 32 years.

She is survived by:

Daughter: Peg (Roger) Soukup of Westfield, IN

Son: Larry (Deb) Van Ackeren of Yutan, NE

Daughter: Patricia (Bill) Bogus of Columbus, NE

Daughter: Julie (Mark) Maercklein of Minot, ND

13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her husband: Francis, her parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
