Mary Jo Tucek, 73, of Columbus died Friday, November 16, 2007 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Monday, November 19 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is on Sunday from 4-7:30 pm at McKown Funeral Home with a 7:30 pm Vigil service, also at the funeral home. Visitation continues Monday morning from 8-10 at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.
Mary Jo Tucek was born October 14, 1934 in Columbus to Albert and Margaret (Sellar) Tucek. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Bonaventure High School. Mary Jo lived her entire life in Columbus where she worked for St. Bonaventure Church and School for 6 years. In 1958 she began working for Columbus Music where she worked until her retirement in October of 2007.
Mary Jo was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church where she belonged to the Ladies Guild, Secular Order of the Franciscans, Perpetual Adoration as a captain, and directed the St. Bonaventure Adult Choir for 20 years. She also played in the Community Band for many years and was a worker and board member for the Friends of Music.
She is survived by:
Sister-in-law Barbara Tucek of Columbus, NE
Niece Jeannie (Keith) Ernst of Lincoln, NE
Grandniece Ashlee Ernst
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Albert B. Tucek.
