Mary K. Nickolite, 87, of Columbus, passed away peacefully August 5, 2024 at Columbus Community Hospital surrounded by her three children.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation is Thursday, August 8, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. vigil service at St. Isidore Church. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time all occurring at the Church. Interment will be at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
Mary was born June 8, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska to Alvin and Hedwig (Jarecki) Micek. She grew up in Duncan where she received her early education. She went on to graduate from St. Bonaventure High School class of 1954. Mary was united in marriage to James "Jim" Nickolite on January 29, 1966 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Mary worked at St. Mary's Hospital, Montgomery Wards, and for 35+ years at Ray's Appliance Sales & Service. Mary was the first Nebraskan to receive the Nebraska Heroine Recognition from the Nebraska Commission on the Status of Women certificate for her many years of service to Ray's Appliance. Mary enjoyed her childhood growing up in Duncan. Prior to marriage, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Mary was a devote Catholic and enjoyed attending Mass.
