Mary "Sue" Messersmith, age 75 of Columbus passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Visitation is Tuesday 4-7 p.m. at the St. Bonaventure Church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be in the All Saints Cemetery.

Mary "Sue" was born June, 4 1948 to Francis and Mary Alice (Svoboda) Rea in Schuyler, Nebraska. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1966. She then attended Metro Tech of Omaha where she graduated with her degree as a licensed practical nurse in 1967. She married Richard Messersmith on September 23, 1967 at St. Augustine Church in Schuyler. They moved to Norfolk where she worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. In 1971 they moved to Columbus where she worked at the Columbus Manor until she retired in 2014 after 43 years. Sue co-founded the Junior Catholic Daughters of America in Columbus. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by:

Children: Scott (Krista) Messersmith of Lincoln, Carrie Prososki of Columbus, Chris (Spencer) Ivory of Lincoln, Laurie (Tim) Cech of Columbus, Merri (Luke) Lutjelusche of Richland

Grandchildren: Alyssa, Matthew, Megan, Seth & Jocelynn,

Derek, Amber, August, Ashley & Autumn,

Kayla, Whitney & Sidney, Abigail, MaKenna & Emily

Great grandchildren: Nolan, Lorelei, Grant & Mason,

Addisyn, Remington, Koltyn & Harper,

Kingsten & Emery

Siblings: Margaret (Lloyd) Stevenson, Mike (Pattie) Rea, Beth Cerny Tooker

She was preceded in death by her parents: Francis & Mary Alice Rea, sister: Melissa Lavicky, son: Matthew Messersmith.
