Mary Hefti, age 74, died Friday, November 29, 2024, peacefully at her home in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. There will be a vigil service at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday with visitation to follow from 5:00-7:00 p.m. all at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial is in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mary Alice (Sindelar) Hefti was born on March 13, 1950, in Howells, Nebraska to Frank Sindelar and Helen (Schlautman) Sindelar. She graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School in 1968 and went on to Wayne State College to pursue her business administration degree.

She met her husband Ralph Hefti in 1973, and they were united in marriage on November 8, 1975. They had just celebrated 49 years of marriage together. Mary worked for NPPD for 19 years.  She then stepped away to raise her children and later went back to work at BD's when her children were in school. After her children left for college, she worked for Premium Retail for over 10 years.

Along with having three children, she was also a foster parent for many children. Her infectious smile, laughter, and kind heart will always be remembered. Her love for dogs never went unnoticed. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary loved spending time volunteering at the Simon House. Her favorite passion was collecting hot wheels with her husband and meeting new friends.

Mary is survived by her husband Ralph of Columbus, Nebraska; son Bryan (Sabrina) of Columbus; daughter Jenna of Wells, Maine; and Michael (Kinsey) of Austin, Texas.
Grandchild: Vivian (Bryan & Sabrina)

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Sindelar.
In-laws, Hilbert and Mildred Hefti of Columbus.

Mary had a passion for animals, from playing with kittens on the farm when she was little to rescuing her precious little dogs.
