Mary Anne Brunken of Creston died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Mary Anne Brunken was born February 17, 1924 in Red Oak, Iowa to Percy and Isabelle (Elwood) Smith. She grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. Mary Anne attended the University of Nebraska where she majored in music. In July of 1947, Mary Anne was united in marriage to Dr. Robert R. McGee in Omaha. To this union 5 children were born, Robin, Shane, Randy, Bruce, and Holly. They lived in Panama City, Panama, Howells, Nebraska, Newcastle, Indiana, and St. Edward. Dr. McGee passed away on September 17, 1964. On May 20, 1989, Mary Anne married Ed Brunken in Creston, bringing his adult children, Jed, Amy, and Sara into the family. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, Christmas, and had a fondness for the color purple. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Creston and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Creston.
