Marvin O. Nelson, of Columbus, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Cottonwood House in Columbus.

Marvin O. Nelson was born April 5, 1924 in St. Edward, Nebraska to Oscar and Charlotte (Olson) Nelson. He grew up in St. Edward where he attended District #65 and graduated from St. Edward High in 1941. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. Upon his return he attended trade school in Milford. Marvin married Maxine McCarty on June 27, 1947. He worked at Rogers Riley and was with the Columbus Fire Department for 44 years, 21 years full time paid and 23 years as a volunteer. He also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 10 years as a switchman.

Marvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was an usher, Builders club, Cub Scoutmaster, coached Little League, member of the VFW #3704 and Eagles Club. He served on the E.S.U. #7 board and was an EMT instructor for the State of Nebraska.
He retired in 1989. On February 9, 1985 Marvin married Zetha (Norris) Abel in Columbus, Nebraska.

Stepson: Roger (Vicki) Abel of Castle Rock, CO
Stepson: Gary Abel of Larkspur, CO
Five grandchildren and Seven great grandchildren
Sister: Millie (Don) Chana of St. Edward, NE
Sister: Dorothy Foreman of Calabasas, CA

He is preceded in death by:
First wife: Maxine Nelson
Daughter: Lynn Marie Nelson
Parents: Oscar and Charlotte Nelson
Brother-in-law: Ray Foreman
Stepson: Danny Abel
