Marvin W. Bender, age 69, of Columbus, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at his home in Columbus due to cancer.
Marvin was born October 29, 1945 in Columbus, Nebraska to Edwin and Lucille (Fischer) Bender. He grew up on a farm near Cornlea. Marv attended Catholic grade school in Cornlea and graduated from Humphrey High in 1964. He then attended trade school in Milford. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from November 1965-September 1967. He married Linda Melcher on June 15, 1968 at St. Bernard Catholic Church. To this union Tracy and Cory where born. After the service he worked construction then later for the US Postal Service for 23 years until retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, trail rides and camping. He was a member of St. Isidore Church, American Legion Hartman Post #84 where he served on the Honor Guard for 6 years. He was awarded the Volunteer of the Year by the Post earlier this year. Marv also belonged to the VFW #3704, Eagles Club, DAV Chapter 20 and 40&8. Marv had a love for his horses, enjoyed iron art work, deer hunting and gardening. His greatest love was spending time with his family and the grandchildren. He enjoyed volunteering for the American Legion with his friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father: Edwin and sister: Peggy Bender.
