Martha died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Martha (Mimick) Stachura was born Jan. 22, 1919 to John and Mary (Smagacz) Mimick in Columbus, NE. She lived on the family farm north of Columbus. She went to St. Anthony's grade school and graduated from St. Francis Academy (now Scotus). Martha was married to John Stachura on May 27, 1941. They lived their entire married life on a farm northwest of Columbus. When John passed away in 1996, Martha moved into her home in Columbus. She moved to Meridian Gardens in November of 2007 where she really enjoyed the staff and residents.
Martha was a farm wife and mother to 5 children. She worked for many years at Riteway Cafe. She was a founding member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, a Charter member of the Legion of Mary, and was a member and officer of Christian Mothers. She also belonged to the Mother of Twins Club, the Joy Makers Social Club and several card clubs.
She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, any sporting event, Polka music, and sending greeting cards to her family and friends. Martha also took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by son Robert (Jane) Stachura, Columbus; daughter-in-law Carol Stachura, Elgin, IL; daughters Betty (Jim) Sprunk, Rita (Ron) Tuma, and Ruth (Mike) Preister, all of Columbus.
Grandchildren Stacey (Brian) Briles, Monroe, IA; Tod (Lenette) Sprunk, Tricia (Shane) Wemhoff, Darci (Roy Jr.) Reinke, all of Columbus; Renee (Dominic) Warrino, Olathe, KS; Kristine (Matt) Spawn, Columbus; Mike (Johanne) Stachura, Hoffman Estates, IL; Karen (Greg) Johnson, Omaha; Mark (fiance' Katie Hackett)Stachura, Chicago, IL; Nicole (fiance' Curt Feilmeier), Omaha; Martin Stachura, Elgin, Il; and Kevin Stachura, Omaha.
Great grandchildren: Dillon and Jacob Sprunk, Alli and Brandon Reinke, Amber and Rachel Spawn, and Zane Wemhoff all of Columbus; Andrew and Nathan Johnson, Omaha; Brody and Brooke Briles, Monroe, IA; Dominic Warrino II of Olathe, KS.
Sister Veronica (Al) Pawoll, Omaha; brother in law, Albin Stachura, Duncan; very good friend Irene Warholoski, and special care-giver Charlotte Meyer both of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by parents John and Mary Mimick, husband John Stachura, son Bill Stachura, Elgin, Il; Sisters Kathryn Dubas, Grand Island; Margaret Griffin, Washington, KS; and Barbara Bernt, Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, Martha requested memorials to St. Isidore's Church building fund, or for stained glass windows.
