Marlene Schreiber

Marlene Schreiber, age 80, of Columbus, died Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Marlene was born September 17, 1935 in Silver Creek, Nebraska to Carl and Anna (Petersen) Thurstonson. She graduated from Silver Creek High in 1953. Marlene married J. Neil Smith on December 7, 1957. Neil died July 23, 1966. She was married to Willis Schreiber on February 4, 1978. Willis died on June 2, 2003. Marlene worked at Farmers State Bank in Silver Creek, Dale Electronics, West Central Insurance, Financial Design and NPPD. After retiring from NPPD, she kept the books for Columbus Transmission, and later volunteered at Columbus Community Hospital. She also represented Avon for many years and worked for several seasons at the Columbus Races.
Over the years, she was active in various clubs and organizations, including Extension, card clubs, Navy Mothers, Parents Without Partners, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and Columbus Businesswomens Assn. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, cake decorating, bowling, playing cards, bird watching, tending her many flower gardens and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She loved hosting monthly family gatherings at her home, along with all the holidays, and she tried to go to all of her grandchildrens sporting and musical events.
