Marie Zak

Marie R. Zak, age 80, of Monroe, Nebraska died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa, Nebraska with Msgr. Robert Nienaber officiating. Visitation is 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation continues after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Rose of Lima Church. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. also at the church. Burial is in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan, Nebraska.

Marie R. Zak was born April 24, 1926 in Platte County, Nebraska to John and Mary (Micek) Stec. She attended schools at District #73, Krakow parochial and Monroe High School. She worked many years in Omaha at the Campbell Soup Company. On April 29, 1961 Marie married Phil J. Zak at Ss Peter & Paul Church near Genoa. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Genoa and belonged to the Altar Society where she served as an officer at one time. Mrs. Zak taught Catechism for several years and was also a Christian Mother's member. Marie was a volunteer telephone recruiter for the Genoa Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years and was a faithful blood donor as well. She served a few years as a Brownie Leader for the Monroe troop and was also a member of the Monroe Mustang Booster Club.

In addition to volunteer work she enjoyed reading, gardening, card playing and bowling, which she did for over 30 years in several leagues up until her stroke in September of 2003.
