Marie Ellen (Porter) Cook Hippel passed away Sunday, September 27 th , 2020 at the Edgewood Memory Care Assisted Living facility in Columbus Nebraska surrounded by caring friends and family.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held by loving members of her family at St. Michael's Cemetery in Albion, Nebraska at 4:30 PM on September 30 th .
Marie was born September 25, 1923, and was the oldest of five children, to Charles and Dora (Reynoldson) Porter in Albion. Marie grew up on a farm near Albion, and graduated from Albion High School in 1940. As a young woman, she worked at the bank in downtown Albion.
Marie married Robert Cook in 1946, and lived and traveled around the country as her husband served in the United States Air Force. From this union, two sons were born as Robert continued his service in and out of the country.
Marie was widowed early in life when her husband, Robert, passed away in 1966 in Tucson, Arizona.
Fortunately, she had trained as a beautician and was able to support her family and raise her two boys. As she continued her career, she was able to purchase a home, business, office space, and other property around the state of Arizona and became a successful business woman. She was passionate about sewing and painting Arizona landscapes. Marie loved to participate as a volunteer for community services and worked with other women sewing clothing for burn victims, as well as volunteering for work at Tucson General hospital and became a deacon of the Christ Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona.
Marie traveled throughout the United States including Alaska, and traveled internationally to Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
She married Donald Hippel in Tucson in 1995 and moved to Nebraska when Don died in 2011.
Marie is survived by her two sons, James (Susan Nichols) Cook of San Diego, CA and Joseph (Sylvia Gaines) Cook, and granddaughter, Hannah, of Elk Grove, CA, her sister Twyla (Porter) Schnieder of Wahoo, NE, sister-in-law Norma (Frey) Porter of Albion, NE, brother-in-law, John Zuroske of Albion, NE, and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dora (Reynoldson) Porter, her husbands Robert Cook and Donald Hippel, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty (Pulver) Porter, her sister Frances Zuroske, her brother Joseph Porter, brother-in-law, Rollin Schnieder, brother and sister-in-law, LeVern and Dorothy (Hutchinson) Cook, and brother and sister-in-law, William and Thelma (Schoening) Cook.
