Margaret Ann Miksch of Columbus died Friday, July 1, 2016 at Brookestone Acres after courageously living with ALS for 18 months.
Margaret Ann Miksch was born January 9, 1952 in Columbus to Louis and Carolyn (Coffin) Miksch. She grew up in rural Columbus and attended District #25 grade school and Scotus Central Catholic High School graduating in 1970. Margaret attended Platte College and graduated from Kearney State College in 1974 with a degree in secondary education. She taught for several years and worked in theater management before returning to school at the University of Iowa where she received her Masters Degree in Actuarial Science. Margaret worked as an actuary in Chicago and most recently in Helena, MT for the past 20 years, retiring in 2014. She moved to Brookestone Acres in Columbus in February of 2015 after being diagnosed with ALS.
Margaret was an avid hiker having hiked all over the western United States. She attended the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Vancouver, Calgary, Salt Lake City, Athens, Melbourne, and Beijing. Margaret was a fan of the Huskers, Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago Bears, attending many of the games and bowl games.
Margaret was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Community in Helena, MT where she was a very active member. She was involved with RCIA, finance committee, EMHC, prayer and bible study groups. Margaret also belonged to the Society of Actuaries.
