Malcolm James Sutherland passed away peacefully at his home on January 23rd. He was born November 19, 1922 in Schuyler to Frank and Bessie. He was employed 33 years for the Soil Conservation Service. Before that time he was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII and worked in Washington and Hawaii. He also was an avid baseball player and pitcher, hunter, fisherman and trapper. Malcolm was a long time member of the Izaak Walton League.

He is survived by his wife Blanche; son Daniel (Robin) of Pierce, son Robert (Roxanne) of Columbus; daughter Kathy (Dean) Hassebrook of Aberdeen, SD; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister Beverly Swanson of Columbus; brother Robert Sutherland (Elsie) of Silt, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul, sisters Bernice, Marjorie and Dorothy. At his very specific request, he was cremated with his ashes to be spread on the land he loved by his immediate family. A private service will be held for the immediate family.
