Ludvik Husak

March 16, 1934 — September 19, 2020

Ludvik "Louie" Joseph Husak, 86, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 19, 2020.  His loving wife Marcella was by his side.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 10:30am at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Columbus, NE.  Visitation will be from 5pm – 7pm followed by a vigil service on Tuesday, September 22 also at St Isidore's.

Louie was born on March 16, 1934 on the family farm in Butler County to Joseph and Helen (Koranda) Husak.  He was one of seven children. His early years were spent helping on the family farm and attending school, completing his education through the eighth grade.  He continued farming until joining the US Army in October of 1956.  During his time in the service, he completed his high school equivalency and aided the peace keeping efforts in South Korea.

After being honorably discharged in 1958, Louie returned to Nebraska.  He officially started dating the love of his life, Marcella Stepanek at the Labor Day parade in Schuyler NE.  They were married on August 20, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler, where they made their home until moving to Columbus, NE in 1966.

To this union 5 children were born.  Louie worked at Becton and Dickenson for a total of 37 years before retiring in 1997.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Izaak Walton League of American.  His retirement years were spent fishing, hunting, working crossword puzzles, playing Taroks, and cooking great meals at the Izaak Walton cabin among other things.

Louie is survived by Marcella, his wife of 60 years, daughter Teresa (Mark) Ellingson of Columbus, NE, son John Husak and special friend Sandy Husak of Columbus NE, daughter Patricia Rountree of Columbus, NE, son Andrew Husak of Columbus NE, daughter Annette (Keith) Ebert of Silver Creek, NE, sister-in-law Charlotte Husak of Lincoln, NE, brothers Richard Husak of Columbus, NE and Alois (Marge) Husak of Grand Island, NE, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Joseph Sr. and Helen Husak, brothers Joseph Jr. and Laddie Husak, sisters Alice Tupy and Francis Trouba, brothers-in-law Joseph Tupy Sr. and Sylvester Trouba, sisters-in-law RoseMarie Husak and Gladys Husak and niece Betty Patocka.

Memorials may be directed to the family or to the donor's choice.

The Vigil and Mass will be lived streamed on the McKown Funeral Home Facebook page.
