Lucille Sophia (Knust) Kalinowski, 93, died Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Columbus.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at St. Isidore Catholic Church. There will be a 4:00 p.m. vigil service Tuesday followed by visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. all at the church. Burial is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Lucille Sophia (Knust) Kalinowski was born December 2,1931, in Humphrey Nebraska to Michael and Josephine (Rollman) Knust. Her family lived on a farm east of Humphrey. She received her education in rural Platte County, District #53 and graduated 8th grade from Saint Francis Catholic School in Humphrey. She then transferred to Saint Joseph High School in Denver Colorado. After her high school graduation, she joined the Sisters of Saint Francis in Denver. She continued her education at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska where she received a B.S. Degree in science. In 1966 she received a master's degree in theology from Saint Mary's University in San Antonino, Texas. Lucille taught in New Mexico and Nebraska among them Scotus Jr. High in Columbus. In 1972, she began teaching at Sunrise Elementary (District #9) in the Lakeview district. She taught there for 25 years and retired in 1997. Following her retirement, she substituted for 14 years at Saint Anthony's making it a total of 60 years in education.

She married Leo J. Kalinowski on June 17,1995 at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. The couple loved to travel and took many bus trips. They also had a camper and traveled through many states and campsites.

Lucille's faith was very important to her. She was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church where she served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Chartered member of Perpetual Adoration. She was also a member of the Saint Theresa Sodality and the Delta Kappa Gamma.

She enjoyed gardening, crafts, square dancing and taking care of her nieces and nephews. Lucille also had a great love for fur babies. Daisy and Mitzy.
