Louis J. Miksch

September 25, 1925 — May 5, 2014

Louis died Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Louis J. Miksch was born at home in Platte County on September 25, 1925 to Louis and Mary (Scharff) Miksch. He received his education at District #3 school in Platte County. In 1944, he worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. Louis served in the United States Army during WWII from January 1945 - November 1946. He was stationed in the Philippines from July, 28, 1945 until September 14, 1945 when he was transferred to Japan. Following his discharge he returned to Platte County where he continued farming with his dad. On November 29, 1950 he married Carolyn Coffin at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Louis continued to farm and raise his family in rural Columbus all his life until his retirement. Louis was a member of St. Isidore Church, Holy Name, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W., Platte Valley Tractor & Engine Association and the American Legion Parry Post #283 for 65 years. He was a storm spotter for the Platte County Civil Defense in the 1960s. Louis enjoyed collecting "hit and miss" gasoline engines and had a 1900 Eclipse windmill. He enjoyed dancing especially going to Sunday dances at the Starlite in Wahoo. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Louis was a strong man of faith which was evident by his worn out prayer book.
