Lorene was born on February 10, 1931, in Shelby, NE to John and Agnes (Johnson) Rosenberry. She grew up on a farm in Monroe and attended country school through the tenth grade. At 16 years of age, she moved to Columbus to attend Kramer High School working for her room and board during those years. After her graduation in 1948 she remained in Columbus employed as a secretary at Behlen Manufacturing Co. She married Daniel Cerny on February 25, 1952. Prior to their marriage she converted to Catholicism and remained a devout Catholic throughout her lifetime. She found strength and comfort in quiet prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary on many occasions.
Lorene was a charter member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and active in Catholic Daughters of America and the Columbus Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary. She proudly wore the title of homemaker. Raising her children and caring for her family was a vocation she found gratifying. She was a phenomenal cook and always made sure that regular meals together as a family were meaningful and enjoyable.
Dan and Lorene were regulars at nearby ballrooms featuring live band music on weekend nights. Lorene loved to kick up her heels on the dance floor! She enjoyed socializing while playing cards with friends. She was particularly fond of playing bridge belonging to four different bridge clubs until she was nearly 90 years old. She was an avid fan of football and cheered passionately for the Huskers and Kansas City Chiefs. In her most recent years, she joyfully welcomed two great granddaughters into the family. Visits from her grandchildren and great granddaughters were always a delightful part of her day. She was eagerly awaiting the birth of her great grandson who is due to arrive in May.
