Lola "Lee" Peterson of Columbus passed on from this life to be with her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ on August 9, 2013 at Good Samaritan Center in Osceola, NE. Lee was 80 years old.
Lola "Lee" Peterson was born in Grand Island, NE on 3/3/33 to Raymond and Emma (Heibert) Ellis. Her mother moved the family to York, NE where she attended York Public Schools. As a young girl, Lee worked as a waitress to help the family. After obtaining her GED, Lee entered the Woman's Army Corp. She trained in the states and volunteered for overseas duty during the Korean Conflict. She was stationed at GHQ Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan as an Intelligence Analyst reviewing top secret documents. She attained the rank of Corporal. After her discharge she returned to York. Lee met Chapin Peterson in 1953 and they were married in Newkirk, OK in January of 1954. To this union, two children were born, Michael and Sharon "Sherri". The family lived in Tulsa, OK., Silver Creek,Yankton, SD, and Columbus.
Lee had 4-H Clubs in Silver Creek and later owned the Silver Coin Drive Inn. She also did crafts from ceramics to silk flowers and baked wedding cakes. After moving to Columbus, Lee took a two year Bible study course thru Jerry Falwell's Liberty University where she attended graduation after completing the two year course. She was then appointed an at-large member of Liberty University Board of Regents. Lee attended the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. She held strong religious beliefs and believed in tithing every month. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3704. Lee loved camping and traveling. She enjoyed animals (her dog Husker), birds at the feeder, and all baby animals. Lee also loved genealogy and family history. She researched the early history of Silver Creek and served on the 100 year centennial committee.
Lee leaves to grieve her passing her husband Chapin "Pete" Peterson of Columbus, daughter Deanna Nielsen of Norfolk, son Mike (Christi) Peterson of Columbus, daughter Sherri (Scott) Garner of Osceola, brother Marley (Verleen) Ellis of York, grandchildren, Megan Peterson, Aaron Jones, Stacia Jones, Michelle Jones, David Crouch, Dana (Corey) Nielsen and several great grandchildren. Also her loving nieces and nephews from the Peterson and Ellis families and a host of friends and church family.
Lee was preceded in death by her mother Emma Ellis and two brothers, Laurel and Gaylord Ellis.
