Lester Steenbock, age 91, of Columbus, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2005 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. The Rev. Richard Bringewatt will officiate. Visitation is Thursday 4-8 pm at the McKown Funeral Home and Friday 9:30 until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service 10:15 a.m. Friday morning at the church. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
Lester W. Steenbock was born April 25, 1914 in Persia, Iowa to Henry and Meta (Ehlers) Steenbock. He grew up in Persia and graduated from Persia High School in 1932. He then attended Iowa State University before returning to Persia where he was involved in several business operations. Les owned and operated a petroleum distribution company and Midwest Construction. He married Arlu Koenig on March 3, 1938 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. In June 1963 they moved to Columbus where Les worked for Champlin Oil which later became Steenbock Oil. Les operated Steenbock Oil until his retirement in 1987 when he sold to Sapp Brothers. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on several boards, Lions Club, SCORE, and the Elks Country Club.
