Leonard L. Tarnick died Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

Leonard was born on Dec. 27, 1927, in Fullerton NE. to Joseph & Mary (Cuba) Tarnick. He attended school at a rural district school, Krakow Parish School, graduated from Fullerton High School. Entered US Air Force in 1946 earning the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Duties included guarding Gen. Douglas MacArthur's airplane. On April 21, 1951, he married Esther Borowiak at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Krakow, NE. and were married 61 years. They farmed near Fullerton until moving to Columbus in 1956. He retired after 38 yrs. at Saunders Archery Co. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, sports, horseshoes, and polka music.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife Esther; son, Tim & Pati Tarnick of Columbus, daughter, Mary & Doug Carrig of Omaha, daughter, Chris Tarnick of Omaha , son, Jim Tarnick of Papillion, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, Kari & Gerit Schell of Lincoln, Sophia & Harrison; Dr. Chad & Lindsay (Perraton) Tarnick of Mesa, AZ. Keating; Dr. Ryan & Jami Tarnick of Lincoln, Palmer; Dawn Carrig Tieken of Highlands Ranch, CO. Joey & Johnny; Michelle Carrig of Dallas, TX; David Carrig of Lincoln; Daniel Carrig of Denver, CO; sister, Elizabeth Nowak of Shawnee Mission, KS, and many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by parents, sisters: Helen Swertzic, Mae Jarecke, Clara Gedroez, Emma Robak, Loretta Zagozda, Evelyn Hyjek, Rose Urzendowski, & Elizabeth Tarnick; brothers, Edmund, Alfons, John, & Louis,father-in-law & mother-in-law: Pete & Tessie Borowiak, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Cliff & Loyola Borowiak.
