Leonard Koertner

Leonard Lee "Len" Koertner, 80, a longtime resident of West Point, Nebraska, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 in Columbus, Nebraska.

Len was born July 5, 1936 to Reuben and Clara Koertner of Bladen, Nebraska. He attended Highland rural school and graduated from Bladen High School in 1954. He was a member of the high school band and football team, and a member of the 4H Club. Len graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. During his time at UNL he was on the university judging team. After finishing college Len worked as a cattle herdsman in Illinois. In the years following he worked as an assistant County Extension Agent in Cheyenne County (Sidney, NE), Keith County (Ogallala, NE) and several years in Cuming County (West Point, NE). His years in West Point also involved several occupations in the agricultural field including feed and premix sales as well as farming. He was proud of his registered Limousin cattle herd and showed them at various shows and sales over the years.

He is survived by his five children: Terry Koertner and his wife Susan of Jefferson, SD, Gail Barnett and her husband James of Lincoln, NE, Loren Koertner of Moore, OK, Karla Koertner of San Diego, CA and Kim Tejeda of Lincoln, NE, 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Len is also survived by his brother Rollie Koertner of Red Cloud, NE, his sister Angela Samson and her husband Stan of Snohomish, WA, his sister-in-law JoAnn Koertner of Pleasanton, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerrald Koertner.
