Leona Walter

Leona L. Walter, age 97, of Columbus, Nebraska died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at her home. Private family services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at McKown Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Burial is in the Humphrey Cemetery.

Miss Walter was born January 22, 1910 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Edward and Minnie (Schroeder) Walter. She graduated from Humphrey Public School. Leona then attended Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She taught 1 year at the Tracy Valley School near Humphrey, 19 years at the Humphrey Public School and 26 years at Emerson School in Columbus. Leona retired from teaching in 1975. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, University of Nebraska Alumni, Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Emerson P.T.A.
