Leona M. Micek, formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Leona M. Micek was born July 9, 1919 in Greeley County, Nebraska to Joseph and Emma (Goedicke) McGuire. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She taught for six years in rural schools in Greeley County. On May 25, 1944 Leona was united in marriage to Elmer J. Micek at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They were married for 60 years.
She received her Bachelors degree from Midland College in Fremont. Leona returned to teaching when her children reached school age and taught for 24 more years at St. Bonaventure Elementary, Duncan Elementary, District 82, and Field, Lincoln, and Emerson Schools in Columbus. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church from 1945 until she moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa in 2003 where she was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Leona enjoyed reading, needlework, following current political events, cooking, and seeing her five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Sisters: Pauline Braun of Albion, Nebraska, Sr. Joan Monica McGuire of St. Catharine, Kentucky and Winnie Becker of Seattle, Washington
Five Grandchildren: Kara (Dan) Taylor, Scott (Jen) Micek, Andrew (Kathy ) Miller, Chad (Emily) Micek and Lindsay Micek
Eleven Great Grandchildren: Kaitlin, Amanda, Nicholas, Blake, Brady, Abby, Emily, Drew, Ben, Grace and Colton
She was preceded in death by parents, husband Elmer Micek, sister Louise McGuire, brother Joseph McGuire .
