Leander J. Kwapnioski, age 84 of Duncan died Monday; November 29, 2004 at the Columbus Community Hospital. Funeral services are10:30 a.m. Thursday; December 2, 2004 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. The Rev. Frank Jindra will officiate. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service all at the church in Duncan. Visitation will continue Thursday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Ss. Patrick/Joseph Cemetery in rural Platte Center.
Leander J. Kwapnioski was born March 2, 1920 in Tarnov, Nebraska to John and Victoria (Ziemba) Kwapnioski. He attended school in Tarnov and graduated from Humphrey St. Francis High School before serving in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942-1945. He married Claire Liebig on June 17, 1947 in Platte Center, Nebraska. Leander owned and operated Lee's Bar in Platte Center for several years. He also woked at Dale Electonics, Kosch Mfg, worked as a plumber and Fleischer Mfg. until his retirement. His wife Claire died in 1989. Lenader moved to Duncan in 1990. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Eagles Club, American Legion and V.F.W. He enjoyed music, singing for weddings, woodworking and playing cards.
