Lawrence &Quot;Larry&Quot; Staroscik

September 24, 1924 — October 30, 2012

Lawrence "Larry" Staroscik age 88 of Columbus died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at his home in Columbus.

Lawrence Larry Staroscik was born September 24, 1924 to Albert and Victoria (Sutko) Staroscik. He attended St. Anthonys through 8th grade and graduated from Kramer High School in 1942. He joined the Army Air Force in 1943 and served to 1946. He served in Europe with the 442 Troop Carrier Group during WWII. He was a crew chief on a C-47. After his honorable discharge he worked in Columbus and surrounding areas until his retirement. Larry was a home and commercial builder for 25 years owning his own construction company.

Larry was married to Maxine Johnson in 1946. They adopted two daughters, Terri Lynn and Jody. The family enjoyed many fishing trips to Minnesota and hunting trips to Cambridge, NE. They also enjoyed camping and big family reunion picnics at Pawnee Park. He and Maxine later divorced.

In 1971 he married Delores Lindbo in Grand Island. Dee has two children, Jerome Lindbo and Cheryl Oppliger and two grandchildren from Cheryl, Jeff Oppliger and his wife Michelle and Jamie Oppliger and her son Cole. They have helped Larry and their mother so much over the years, mowing the lawn, clearing snow, driving them to appointments and general all around help. Larry especially enjoyed Jeff, his pride and joy. They spent many hours together and he really helped his grandpa. They enjoyed many family holidays and cookouts and when his daughters could get home it was nice to include them. He wished Terris son Troy and his wife, Heather and their sons, Andy and Alex lived Closer, but he enjoyed phone calls and letters from them and occasional visits.

Larry enjoyed gardening. He grew the biggest tomatoes you ever saw and over the years he would share his surplus with family, friends and the local nursing home. He grew beautiful flowers for his love, Delores that he would eagerly plant each spring. Larry was a lifetime member of the V.F.W Club and the American Legion. He served on the Columbus City Council in the 1960s under Mayor Micek.

Larry was preceded in death by his sisters: Irene Kopetzky and her husband Ralph, Helen Torczon, Dorothy Murphy, Louis Novotny and her husband Martin, 2 brothers: Louis and his wife Betty and Leonard Staroscik.
